Class Syllabus

Student Papers
Students can gain extra credit by presenting a short biography on one of the people for whom our theories and analysis techniques are named. Just who were Ohm, Thevenin and Norton? Research it, write it up, present it to the class and you get an extra 10 points (like a perfect quiz).

Computers have a very interesting history. There are many real and virtual museums throughout the world. As you find them, send me (email harold@hallikainen.com) info to include here.

• Quizzes - Samples and actual, with solutions. Study material is also available in the discussion area.
  • Sample Quiz 1 - Voltages to ground, differential voltage, Ohm's law, calculating power dissipation, hex to binary conversion, interpretation of an 8 bit binary number as: unsigned integer, signed integer, ASCII with parity, enhanced ASCII. Negating (finding the two's complement) of an 8 bit signed binary number.
  • Sample Quiz 2 - Basic processor concepts with a little IDE thrown in.

• Processor Summary - Each student is assigned one processor to summarize based on information in the text. Not all information is applicable or available for every processor. Student reports will be posted here for reference. These summaries are due 4 September.
